YL Homemade Gourmet Sweet Potato Dog Treats
These treats are simply a much better option for your little (or big) furbaby than store bought. You will be amazed at how easy it is to make your own gourmet treats. The whole process from start to finish takes less than an hour (using leftover sweet potatoes)! Depending on the cookie cutter size you use you can get approx. 100 – 25 (1/4″ thick) treats from this recipe.
1/2 Cup Organic/Homemade Chicken/Beef Bone Broth
1/4 Cup Mashed Sweet Potatoes (or pumpkin)
1/4 Cup Cold-Pressed Olive Oil
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil (melted and slightly cooled)
1 1/3 Cup Tapioca Flour
1/3 Cup Coconut Flour
2 Eggs (or 2 Tbsp Flax Seed, Ground/Meal)
Additional Ingredients — See Directions
1/4 Cup Melted and slightly cooled Coconut Oil
4 drops Young Living Orange or Peppermint Vitality essential oil
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
Mix together bone broth, sweet potatoes/pumpkin, olive oil, and coconut oil in one bowl (if using eggs add to this bowl)
Mix together tapioca and coconut flour in another bowl (if using flax seed add to this bowl)**
Combine broth mixture to the flour bowl and mix thoroughly (using your hands works well just be sure to cover them with a light coat of olive oil).
Roll out between parchment paper to 1/4″ thickness, continue cutting out treats until you have used as much of the dough as possible.
Need or want a bone-shaped cookie cutter? These (see link) are wonderful because they come in various sizes. Click/touch here to get your bone-shaped cookie cutter.
Bake in a 400 degree preheated oven for approx. 15 minutes
AFTER the treats come out of the oven and while they are cooling — gently melt 1/4 cup coconut oil and allow to cool slightly — add 4 drops Young Living orange oil and mix well.
Orange essential oil is great to help maintain healthy skin.
When treats are cooled brush a light coat of mixture on tops of each treat.
You can allow your pet to have one now but let them sit for about an hour before storing in a canister, mason jar, or baggie.
