Are you ready to take back control of your health? Are you ready to maintain good health, and good overall body function?
Today’s lifestyles don’t always create optimal conditions for physical wellness. Poor diet, lack of exercise, and an overabundance of environmental toxins can leave the body unbalanced and diminish energy levels. But we can make changes together! This class will specifically cover simple, effective DIY, tools and tips that will help. One of the main tools we will talk about is Young Living essential oils and essential oil-infused supplements and products. Many have found that they can provide the targeted solutions you need to restore balance and feel your best.
Let’s do an experiment together!
Our bodies have natural ways of cleansing themselves in order to stay healthy, however; we are continually exposed to toxins, harmful chemicals, and unnecessary additives that our bodies can’t keep up with. Our skin is like a large sponge, it absorbs everything, both harmful and beneficial. When harsh chemicals and toxins come in contact with our skin (say, petroleum products often found in cosmetics and shampoos), they are absorbed at a higher volume in our fat cells. Over time, these chemicals accumulate in fatty tissues and organs such as our brain and liver. In a government-funded Human Adipose Tissue Survey, almost every person tested showed measurable levels of petroleum-based carcinogenic chemicals in their fatty tissues.
For this experiment, you will need:
- a glass of water and
- a bottle of food coloring*
*note: if you do not have a bottle of food coloring you can substitute for anything that would discolor water, such as a dark fruit juice
Let us think of our body as a glass of water. Picture a perfectly cleansed body as a tall, sparkling glass of water. Let’s start adding up how many toxins you are exposing yourself to each day beginning when you wake up in the morning.
For each harmful exposure, you will “add a drop” of food coloring to your glass of water!
6:00 a.m. – Wake up, get in the shower and wash your body with scented soap- add a drop.
6:03 a.m. – Wash your hair with shampoo containing sodium lauryl sulfate (a product used to clean car grease off of garage floors)- make sure you scrub that stuff deep into your scalp (not)! – add a drop.
6:06 a.m. – Condition your hair with a conditioner containing phthalates. Two of the phthalates we use today in personal care products are banned in Europe. Phthalates are “plasticizer” chemicals. ln 2008 many phthalates were banned in children’s toys but are still found in our food and food packaging today. – add a drop.
6:10 a.m. – Put lotion on your body that contains parabens (which were banned in Europe in 2012), phthalates, and mineral oil (obtained from petroleum); these are endocrine disruptors and can alter your hormonal balance resulting in a whole myriad of unwanted symptoms- add a drop.
6:15 a.m. – We will not even get into make-up… If you use it – add one drop for each item you put on.
6:18 am. – Brush your teeth with toothpaste that contains fluoride and says call Poison Control if swallowed, – add a drop.
6:21 a.m. – Put on your perfume or aftershave containing “fragrance.” Companies use “fragrance” as an ingredient, but the FDA does not require them to list what those ingredients actually are because they are “trade secrets.” There can be up to 500 chemicals in a single “fragrance.” Fragrances often contain parabens or phthalates — add a drop.
6:22 a.m. – Apply deodorant to your underarms (which is right next to large collections of lymph nodes and women’s breasts), see if one of the active ingredients is aluminum. “If a significant aluminum load exceeds the body’s excretory capacity, the excess is deposited in various tissues, including bone, brain, liver, heart, spleen, and muscle. This accumulation causes morbidity and mortality through various mechanisms” (Bernardo, Verstraeten). Deodorant also often contains parabens- – add a drop if you see parabens, aluminum, or “fragrance” on your label.
The FDA considers many of these ingredients safe in the levels they’re found in cosmetic and skincare products, but what about repetitive use on a daily basis? Ask yourself this, “why have so many of these ingredients been banned for years in Europe and Canada?”
Alright! So how’s your water glass looking? Are you even out of the bathroom yet? We have yet to touch on household cleaners and some of the foods that we eat. The goal of this class is to get you to start paying attention to what you are exposed to every day, and start doing something to eliminate them and negate these effects! If you are sitting with a murky glass of water in front of you, don’t worry, we have good news! You can work on slowly turning the murky water of your glass back clear. Over the course of this week, we will talk about ways you can add “pure water” back into your glass to start cleaning out those toxins!
Tomorrow we will look at a very common harsh-chemical that can be found in soaps and toothpaste and some DIY recipes to replace them!
